I guess I have finally decided to join a Blog due to this recent Veto by the National Party of the Extending of the Paid Parental leave bill currently at parliament.

It gets me really frustrated that anytime social improvement is attempted in this country someone always screams there is no money!! If there is money for our Politicians to take expensive flights to everywhere in the world than there should certainly be enough money to help improve care for our children. Plunket should not require public donations to keep it going.

I guess the National Party only has a short sighted version of what should happen in this country. But their responsibility should not be in the short-term but rather in the long-term. I can complain because I did not vote National and I did exercise my vote. I guess having someone who made all his money on the stock market in short-term investments could not possibility be expected to do what’s right for every New Zealander in the long-term. How exactly again does his money make him a candidate for Politics? Obviously running an entire country and balancing the nation’s budget is a bit over his head considering we are in a worse deficit than when they started in 2008. I recently saw a head-line stating that Bill English is the Minister of arrogance well if that’s the case than John Key is the Prime Minister of Arrogance, it was what he built his 2011 campaign on.

It is a real shame that they cannot see that the future of this country is the children. Would it not make sense to provide better support for parents so that they can stay at home as long as possible? All the studies show that it is better for many reasons. The current paid parental leave of 14 weeks doesn’t even cover the basics for a family to survive on.

Before I finish I just took a poll asking whether or not the Paid parental leave should be extended to 6 months and 64% of people have said “No”. This really concerns me. What percentage of this response is by people who do not have children? They should not even have a say in this because they are not contributing to the future of the country and so therefore should have no say at all in what struggles families are under. The argument that one should only have children to your budget… well that only is relevant if you do not lose your job or your family has money….. Most people in this country are struggling just to get by everyday. It angers me that for an advanced Society here in NZ but people don’t seem to think in a Socially responsible way. I know this first attempt is a bit scattered but I am new at this. One thing though I do not lack the passion. This current government is no doubt going to provide me with many issues to cover….
